Mrs. Pearl Taylor- Fountain teacher for 30 years

Mrs. Taylor taught in Fountain schools for 30 years.  Born Pearl Henrietta Grubb in Crawford County, Kansas in 1883, she taught school in Girard, KS before coming to Colorado.  She and her husband, Fred Arthur Taylor, were married at the United Presbyterian Church in the Springs in 1910.  Fred, also a native of Crawford County, served there as the school superintendent.  

 

Pearl began teaching the intermediate grades at the Fountain School in about 1922.  Fred had been ill for several years before passing away at their Fountain home in 1925.  Pearl remained in Fountain, progressing from teacher to the school principal.  She passed away in 1965.  She was buried beside her husband in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mrs. Taylor's personal papers, which include momentos from her students, newspaper clipping and tax returns, were donated to the Fountain Museum. 
A title shows that in 1930, during the great depression, Pearl purchased a new Chevrolet Universal coach for $779, more than 6 months pay!
